New National Standard for Labelling Dispensed Medicines

A new National Standard for Labelling Dispensed Medicines is now available to provide guidance on the format and content of information on dispensed medicine labels.

Consistent presentation of information on all medicine labels across Australia will make it easier for consumers to know how to take their medicines safely and effectively.

The standard is for all health professionals who dispense medicines, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nurse practitioners, general practitioners, optometrists and dentists. It is evidence-based and informed by a literature review, legislation and guidelines, user testing, hospital evaluation of prototype labels, and extensive consultation.
