Board Chair, Day Hospitals Australia 

Day Hospitals Australia is the peak industry body for the day hospital sector with 205 members representing two thirds of day hospitals across Australia.

Day Hospitals Australia’s Vison is – To advance the day hospital sector as a critical element of a sustainable Australian Health Care System.

The organisation employs a full time CEO as well as four part-time staff. Members contribute to some of the organisation’s work on a voluntary basis.

A strategically focused Board working closely with its CEO and staff with an engaged membership is seen as key to the organisation’s ongoing success.

This position is ideally suited to an individual with significant Board experience, preferably including a role as Chair, with experience in healthcare and who is willing to publicly advocate for the role of day hospitals in the Australian Health care system.

Applicants must have time available to devote to this position and have an understanding of current and future challenges facing healthcare in Australia. It is expected that the successful applicant will commence in late February /early March 2025, and it is envisaged that the successful applicant will be located in Canberra, Sydney or Melbourne.

The successful applicant will be required to chair monthly Board meetings, the majority of which are held online with three meetings a year held on a face-to-face basis. Board papers are prepared by the CEO and approved by the Chair.

The Chair will be required to support and assist the CEO and/or individual Directors in relevant matters where indicated. Attendance at the annual national conference is a requirement of the role, with the 2025 annual conference to be held in Canberra.

Clinical Nurse Manager – Harley Day Surgery, Adelaide

Harley Day Surgery provides patients specialist dental & oral surgery in a SA Health licenced and NSQHS accredited private day procedure hospital in the heart of North Adelaide’s medical precinct. 

The role of the Clinical Nurse Manager is to provide clinical leadership and support to our team of Harley Day Surgery specialists, VMO, nursing staff and management to benefit the patients who choose Harley Day Surgery for their care.

You will manage the clinical governance and operations of the Day Surgery, Recovery and CSSD areas. Your role will champion quality assurance standards at Harley Day Surgery along with our Executive team to ensure the facility provides achieve optimal patient health outcomes.  The role also includes taking the lead in creating a collaborative, efficient and compliant workplace in line with NSQHS & ISO9001 Standards working closely with our Senior Management Team.

Your duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Quality & Risk Management

  • Ensure that Harley Day Surgery complies with NSQHS Standards, SA Government licensing requirements.
  • Prepare the Day Surgery areas for and coordinate clinical compliance activities required to facilitate successful external audits in line with NSQHS, AS5369 and site licensing requirements.
  • Promote the delivery of quality, patient-centred care through continuous training and improvement of clinical support staff & service systems.
  • Ensure that risks to clinical operations are identified, and timely remedial action is implemented where appropriate.
  • Regularly monitor & review Day Surgery policies & processes and report back to our Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) and Management Review Committee (MRC) regarding performance of such processes.
  • Implement and monitor our Day Surgery’s systems, policies, and procedures to achieve NSQHS Standards – spanning infection control, emergency systems & preparedness, hazardous materials/waste programs and security management.
  • Manage the response to complaints and feedback from consumer representatives, patients or third parties and proactively survey and respond to patient feedback surveys.

Team Management

  • Assist with regular performance reviews with clinical support staff that includes the evaluation of care provided to patients.
  • Assist with the development of clinical support staff skill competencies by supporting on-going staff professional development activities.
  • Assist the Senior Management Team with the recruitment, selection and induction of all clinical staff employed by Harley Day Surgery.

Operational Performance

  • Oversee the overall Day Surgery theatre and recovery processes.
  • Maintain clinical records for the Harley Day Surgery.

About you

  • APHRA Registered Nurse 
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience managing teams in day surgery or similar setting.
  • Excellent clinical knowledge of day surgery practice and procedures
  • Knowledge of dental procedure (desirable)
  • Graduate qualifications in Peri-operative or Recovery Nursing (desirable)
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation in relation to employment, workplace health and safety, clinical governance and privacy.
