Operating Theatre Coordinator RN

Day Surgery setting – Plastic Surgery

Hamilton House is a “state of the art” small Day Surgery facility, located on Goodwood Road just south of Adelaide specialising in plastic surgery ranging from skin cancer removal and reconstruction, hand surgery and cosmetic surgery. Most procedures are performed under local anaesthesia, but major procedures are performed under IV sedation and GA.

Currently we are looking to appoint the key role of Theatre Coordinator to lead our established day surgery team. 

Reporting to the Medical Director and leading Adelaide Plastic Surgeon Dr Richard Hamilton, the primary duties in this role will be to coordinate the operating theatre and nursing services, the CSSD and the Recovery unit at Hamilton House Day Surgery. Providing a pivotal communication link between, the Medical Director, the nursing staff and the Practice Manager, this person will collaborate and liaise closely with the Principal Surgeon and the Office Manager re theatre bookings and lists. 

Key Areas of responsibilities and requirements

Competent Scrub Nurse with plastic surgery experience

Theatre Facility & Patient Care:
Oversee management of operating theatre, CSSD, rotation and direction of staff and the coordination of the day-to-day functioning of the theatre facility for the benefit of patients.

Documentation:
Participate in the development of nursing policies and procedures and support the ACHS / NSQHS Accreditation program.

Equipment:
Ensure nursing staff are fully competent to operate all equipment by your supervision and by arranging training by supplier/competent professional

Stock Control:
Maintain medical supplies and stock for the Day Surgery and Clinic and arrange orders in a timely fashion.

Infection Control:
Oversee the Infection Control program to ensure implementation of standard guidelines and requirements.
Oversee CSSD to ensure that all correct and current codes of practice for the sterilising of medical devices / instruments are followed.
Coordinate preparation and wrapping of sterile stock.

Staffing:
Oversee orientation, training and induction of new theatre staff.

Personal attributes
Be able to collaborate readily with specialist medical practitioners.
Extensive scrub nurse competence is essential. Experience with NSQHS Accreditation and a Sterilisation Certificate would be favoured, although not essential.

Ideally suiting an individual with a background across Theatre Nursing within a Day Surgery/Hospital setting, individuals looking to take a step forward in a Nursing leadership role are strongly encouraged. Offered as a full-time role with hours usually structured across a four-day working week, a typical week would generally be structured Mon/Tue/Wed/Fri, an extensive hand over, competitive salary and the chance to work with a respected surgical \team known for longevity and tenure with Hamilton House await the successful candidate.

 This position would suit an experienced flexible and adaptable RN with proven and competent theatre skills and experience.
Ability to manage a small team and being able to motivate and inspire nursing and other staff is also important.

Altura Health (formerly ACSS Health) has been developing patient administration systems since 1992. For the last decade we have been known for our product Simday but in the last few years we have been rolling out our cloud version of Simday rebranded as FYDO.

As we grow we are looking to expand our hospital support team. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Handling 1st and 2nd level support enquiries via phone and email
  • Onboarding new hospital clients
  • Data entry for hospital billing
  • Liaising with doctors, hospitals, third parties via phone and email
  • Monitoring email inboxes and raising client support tickets
  • Setting up client accounts within our products (FYDO and Preadmit)
  • Conducting training sessions for hospital users

ESSENTIAL

  • Previous experience with hospital billing or hospital reception ESSENTIAL
  • Excellent customer service skills and phone manner
  • Problem solving attitude
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to navigate through multiple systems
