Our CEO, Jane Griffiths and Dr John Napoli, Gastroenterologist and NSW Chapter Chair, represent Australia on the General Assembly of IAAS. Last Saturday evening Jane and John attended the IAAS General Assembly meeting online. The majority of participants attended the meeting in person, which was held in Porto Portugal on 22 April.
IAAS assists countries to develop and set up their own same day surgery associations. Serbia have requested support for their association and there has been interest from Thailand, South Korea and Hong Kong.
In the UK the Day Surgery agenda is being driven to address the back log of elective surgery, “Day surgery as the default’ is important key to tackling COVID-19 surgical backlog, says GIRFT report”.
IAAS hold an International Congress every 2 years, with the next congress being held in Oslo, Norway from 12 to 15 May 2024. The congress is an opportunity to understand how same day surgery is developing and progressing around the world and where Australia sits.
