Day Hospitals Australia has released the 2025 update of its report Private Healthcare’s “Fork in the Road”, incorporating the latest HCP 2023/24 data. This updated analysis reinforces the urgent need to reform private hospital funding models to ensure the long-term sustainability of Australia’s healthcare system.
Despite previous findings highlighting significant cost savings through increased use of day hospitals, the updated report shows no improvement in indexation from private health insurers—and in some cases, conditions have worsened.
To keep private healthcare and insurance premiums affordable, it remains critical to shift more procedures to day hospitals and ensure these facilities are fairly remunerated.
